I'd serve up Ellis on a silver platter. It's another bad contract of Poile's, but the Johansen and Dechene contracts are far worse.

Thanks for this. The Cap Friendly Poll looks like the protection list of your average generic fan who knows absolutely nothing about the Predators would submit, lol. Sadly, I can see a scenario where Poile might actually do that, but let's hope he hasn't totally lost his mind.

You're in a minority about Joey here my friend. Either way, I wouldn't bother protecting him since Seattle is very unlikely to select him and that contract anyway. Why waste the slot? Arvy being dealt is interesting since that frees up a spot, but my list is still pretty controversial. It won't happen, but here's who I'd protect...

Forsberg
Sissons (Arvy Replacement)
Kunin (Based mostly on how much Poile gave up for him)
Josi
Ekholm
Fabbro
Ellis
Carrier

Yeah, that's right I said it... I'd protect all five defensemen. It's all based on value to the team, and whose actually at risk to get snatched up. I'd protect both Ellis and Fabbro if for no other reason then to flip them for other assets if Poile decides they're not part of the Preds future. If either guy is exposed, they're going to be selected by Seattle. No question about it, so you almost have to protect both. Of the three stooge contracts everyone hates, Ellis is the one guy out of the three who Poile might be able to trade and get a decent return for. You have to take the rumors with a grain of salt, but if teams were willing to give up a 1st for Ellis, how do you justify letting him walk to Seattle for free? I know everyone's desperate to be rid of one of those contracts, but one of these guys is tradeable while the other two are not. Puck Moving offensive d-men are valued highly around the league for better or worse.

There's also the chance Poile could work out a deal with Seattle so they don't take Carrier. One thing the Preds have going for them is that Carrier is still a rather unknown commodity around the league. He might not be high on Seattle's radar, so maybe Poile could work something out without having to break the bank.

Forsberg and Kunin are the only forwards I would protect. The other forwards, I could care less about. Maybe protect Trenin also if he's eligible.

What would Preds fans think about a deal centered around Ellis for Voracek?

" Better yet, Vegas is exempt."

I assume you were being sarcastic here but it really is probably the worst thing for Vegas that they won't have a salary taken off their hands. Unintended consequences...

Aw. I liked the idea of having a mysterious, unnamed "Guest Writer"... but then you signed your name at the bottom.

Guest writer not ghost writer. Boy he sure is better than previous writer who was MIA 99% of the time.
